[23 Mar 2010] Raising of the footbridge between the Convention Centre and the hotel

August 15, 2013

At 12 midday on Tuesday, 23rd March, the footbridge that links the Convention Centre and the Hotel was raised into place. This task, one of the most important and spectacular of all the building work, only required twelve people to complete.

The footbridge, which had previously been welded on the ground, was raised by two enormous cranes, with a lifting capability of 450 and 200 tonnes. The steel structure of the footbridge weighs in at 90 tonnes. The aforementioned structure will be covered with plasterboard on the interior ceiling, stone from the north façade on the exterior, wood on the floor, aluminium on the bottom of the footbridge and glass on the walls. The spectacular process lasted an hour and a half and nobody was allowed on site during the same due to the strict safety regulations in place. The footbridge is fixed to the side of the Palau by means of welds while the side of the hotel allows independent movement for safety reasons. It is calculated that by the end of April or beginning of May the construction process for the whole structure of the building will have finished.
